Drum Roll Please...

Hello Everyone and I hope 2012 is turning out to be OK for you all.

It's been a little bit stressful this week in the CityStitcher household. I started my new job on Wednesday and then on Friday the downstairs bathroom ceiling fell in. Fortunately the leak (from the upstairs toilet) is not constant, so things aren't too bad until the plumber comes on Tuesday.

But without my further ado, I'd like to announce the results of the 12 Days of Blogland Giveaway.  Woo hoo! To save time I used a random number generator, helped by the fact I had exactly 70 entries. The winner is...

"29

Random numbers generated Jan 8 2012 at 13:7:14 by www.psychicscience.org
Free educational resources for parapsychology, psychical research & mind magic."

It looks like number 29 is Wendy at The Crafter's Apprentice.  Wendy, I'll be in touch!

Thanks to everyone for entering, I never expected so many entries and now have over 100 followers as well.

Until next time...

Should auld acquaintance be forgot...

Happy New Year one and all, I hope you all had a fabulous evening doing whatever it was that makes you happy, be that stiching, partying the night away or scoffing to your hearts content.

We've had a bit of sickness here, so I've been playing nurse maid, fortunately everyone was better for NYE.  Here's me and himself just off to our new year shindig hosted by my newly engaged friends who introduced me all evening as the "best lady" which made me very happy indeed.

 Until next time...

12 Days of Christmas in Blogland - Day 3 "My True Love Gave to Me"

Firstly, thanks to all of you that have entered the giveaway, there have already been a lot of entries!

I was fortunate to receive many stitching presents this year, not just from my 'true love' but also family and stitching friends.

Firstly, between my parents I got £85 of sewandso vouchers (that's about $130 or €100) so I can use those to finish buying a few bits of stash for current projects (mainly Medieval Towne Mandala).

Himself bought me (on special request) A Stitcher's Journey by Blackbird Designs, which I had seen for sale at the Patchwork Rabbit, an online shop I have just discovered.

One of my brothers (I have two) bought me the funniest present.  I am a huge John Barrowman fan (stop laughing at the back there!) and what do you buy the cross stitching John Barrowman fan, who has everything?

A bespoke kit of his face!

I think this might be the funniest present I've ever been given!

The other main stitching gift I got was from my secret santa exchange on the Stitch Specialists group.  My 'santa' really spoiled me sending me this:

The gift included, as well as the Christmas decoration and card I've already detailed in a previous post, 2 pieces of 36ct "Star of the Show Special" linen hand dyed by Vicki Clayton of HDF, a limited Edition southwestern bag of over dyed floss from the Gentle Arts (the colours are Margarita, Spanish Rice, Black Bean Salsa, Sagebrush, Cactus and Desert Bloom), a skein of Dinky Dyes silk in Toni's Texas T and a a skein of Threadworx over dyed floss in San Antonio. All in all a very generous present with lots of new things for me to try. I feel very lucky!

I got some other presents as well, perfume, toiletries, lots of chocolate, but I like the stitching presents as they really are the ones that last all year.

I hope you all had a little stitching goodness in your stockings this year, but that most of all your Christmas was happy and peaceful.

Until next time...

12 Days of Christmas in Blogland - Day 2 Giveaway

There was no Day One, but I couldn't spend extensive time online yesterday (one of the downsides of a secret blog), so I'm jumping in at day 2, I hope I am forgiven.

EvelinaMarie over on This and That has set up a 12 Days of Christmas activity. She has asked us to write an entry describing our hobby and general stitchiness across the 12 Days of Christmas, which starts on Christmas Day and goes through to Epiphany (6 January).  We participants post as much as we can between now and then.

I'm going to start off my 12 Days of Christmas with a Giveaway.

One lucky commenter will win a full kit for Mirabilia's Christmas Elf Fairy.  I was gifted this twice a couple of years ago.  I am nearly finshed making one up, but I will not use the second kit.  Although I have opened the kit, to check it is intact, it is complete bar the needle (seems to have got broken at some point) with 12 skeins of Crescent Colors, 2 packs of Mill Hill Beads, a cut of #4 Kreinik braid and a card of Whisper Thread.

To enter, please leave a comment, on this post only, you do not have to advertise the Giveaway, but if you would like to mention the 12 Days of Christmas in Blogland, I'm sure that I and the other participants would be grateful!

International entrants are welcome, and the competition ends at midnight GMT on 6 January.

I'll be back tomorrow, where I'll share my stitching Christmas presents with you (bet you can't wait!)

Until next time...

Ding Dong Merrily on High

Just a very quick blog entry to wish anyone that might be passing by all very best wishes of the season, whatever your beliefs, from one confirmed non believer who enjoys the spirit of family and togetherness.

I'll be back soon, with a '12 Days of Blogland' entry and a giveaway with a prize or two!

Until next time...

The Times They Are a'Changin'

(long post, picture heavy)

It has been a long time since my last confession...

I have missed numerous IHSW, barely read another blog, missed all kinds of giveaways and Christmas stitchalongs and generally been completely out of the stitching loop.  Quite frankly I'm amazed I still have any followers and that my membership of the stitching community hasn't been revoked (I even missed my own blogaversary!)

As well all know far too well, however much the needles call, sometimes life just gets in the way.

Significant Life Episode #1. I have moved! UK readers will be aware that the housing market in London is a very expensive business and we found ourselves perfectly able to pay the rent, and ironically able to afford pretty good holidays, because the money we could save wasn't even a drop in the ocean of what was needed to put down a deposit on a modest flat.  After doing some sums we worked out that if we didn't spend any money at all (no holidays, no getting married, nothing), we could afford to buy something... in 7 years time.  I should add, we don't have high expectations (when we do get married, it's going to be down the registry office, and a bash in the local pub) but property in London even the cheaper parts is VERY VERY expensive.

Moving out of London isn't an option (and why should I! - stupid economic downturn ) so enter stage left, my mum!  My mum has a bigish house, with a couple of spare bedrooms after one of my brothers moved out earlier this year. She has very generously given these over to himself and I so we can save up some money. We're paying our share of the bills of course, but we have projected that we should now be able to buy something in 18 months -2 yrs. So now we are all set up with a little living room and a little bedroom, and my mum and I are managing (so far) to share a kitchen. Thanks mum, we really appreciate it!

Significant Life Episode #2. It never rains but it pours, and in late November I got offered a new job! This was one of those long processes, had an interview, waited two weeks for the next interview, waited 2 weeks for the next one... waited 10 days for the offer in writing. I first found out about the job in mid October, and I wasn't entirely qualified for it on paper, so I never really expected to be offered the job.  The reason this represents such a significant change is because for the last 2.5 years, I have been working from home.  This has given me a lot of flexibility around working, stitching, blog updating (haha) so from January life will seem very different. That said, it will make me be more organised and probably a little bit more appreciative of my stitching.

I am absolutely determined next year to keep up with my blogging, particularly since I am signed up for the WIPocalypse and the TUSAL stitch-a-longs.  Both have New Moon stitching dates, and I already have my ORT jar ready :)

Ta da!
Now, before you all go worrying that there's going to be no stitching content in this post, do not fear, I haven't been quite that bad.

Let's see how Beehive Sampler by Moira Blackburn is coming along:

I have actually done quite a lot on this one, as you can see I have finished, what I am describing as 'the bones' and have got nearly 50% of the way through filling in the floral panels. The end is starting to approach, it's not quite in sight, but the end in sight of the end in sight is in sight :)

Secondly, I have taken part in a couple of exchanges via the Stitch Specialists Yahoo Group.

First up was the anniversary exchange which took place in early November and this is the gift I sent my partner:

I had to send a a card to celebrate the groups first birthday, a skein of floss (Weeks Dye Works Peacock), some needles (John James platinum 24) and a piece of fabric (The Crafty Kitten).  What you can't see in this picture is this fabric I sent, because I forgot to take a picture... Because I wasn't very well when I made the card, so I didn't finish it properly, I threw in a few extra bits from my stash to compensate, and a piece of 'London Fog' by Weeks Dye Works that I picture up on holiday.

And this is what I got in return!

A lovely piece of navy blue jobelan, Weeks Dye Works in Concord (my current favourite thread) and a John James pebble, a real treat as I am generally an anything to hand needle kind of gal.

The other exchange I took part in is the Stitch Specialists Christmas Exchange. I can't show you too much of what I sent as my partner is not opening hers until Christmas Day, but  here is some of the detail:

We had to send a handmade card and a gift up to the value of (I think) £10/$15 and something to represent where the gift had come from.  The stitching based gift should also be sourced locally, so hand dyed fabric or threads from a UK based source in my case.  Eagle eyed viewers will be able to guess what I did for my hand made card!

I return I received a very large package from Theresa

It's only a Texas Ranger Santa!!

I've also been the very lucky recipient of beautiful card from Jo at Serendipitous Stitching, which is personalised.  Thanks for remembering me Jo even if I've been rubbish!

I've also bought a little bit of stash. Firstly, I have kitted up Friendly Full Moon Witch by Chatelaine:

I haven't included the DMC threads in the floss toss.  The fabric is 'Moonlighting' by Sparklies. This is only available as an online class until 15 January 2012 if you are interested.

Secondly, I have also kitted up the Tree of Stitches by Abi Gurden.  The chart is no longer available via the Stitch Specialists, but I believe will to buy in the near future.  The colour combination is a little 'braver' than I usually go for.  I will reveal the reason why in a later post, when I have started stitching.

The fabric is 'Fire' again by Sparklies.

Last but not least just to prove it is Christmas, despite everything else, here is a picture of our tree:

So, for everyone still reading, thank you for reading, thank you for coming back after all this time and all the very best wishes of the season to you, wherever you are and whatever your beliefs, and your families, friends and loved ones.

Until next time...

Breaking the Rules

I'm not allowed to blog until I've finished the 'bones' of the border on my Beehive sampler (what that means will be clear when I've finished and can blog about it).

But I've cracked! Partly due to the fact that Veronica from Veronica's Stitching Vault has received her giveaway prize so I can now reveal all.

The design is "Adore Autumn" a freebie by Trail Creek Farm stitched in Weeks Dye Works on 10ct Heatherfield in Camel with Just Another Button embellishments. I've never stitched on 10ct before, so the holes felt very big. I used 3 strands of floss to get the coverage I was looking for.  The stitched piece was then attached to the pillow to make an Autumn or fall ornament. As what do we do after summer holidays? We look to Autumn! Although I'm not sure what season it is in Malaysia right now, Veronica says she likes it and that's the main thing.  I also sent Veronica the chart, and the floss so that she can remake the design or pass to a friend if she would like. Also, I want to share the Weeks Dye Works love, I really really liked stitching with these threads (which could be an expensive habit!)

All the supplies came from the Cross Stitch Cupboard, an LNS in Fort Lauderdale, FL. If you ever find yourself in the area I can highly recommend a visit as it's a very nice shop.

That's it for now, I'll be back when I've stitched that pesky border.

Until next time...
